Who are you, really? Whatever your profession or hobbies, when we engage with others, we all convey a personal brand. Like it or not, if you don’t establish one for yourself, others will do it for you. How can you avoid being pegged into a mold that doesn’t quite fit?

Take control. Build your brand. Carve your path.

Practical Examples

I taught group fitness classes for a decade as a fun side gig. That’s where a student dubbed me, ‘Kimpossible,’ after a particularly challenging class. Despite wishing, at times, I could be the light, friendly teacher making jokes throughout class and entertaining as well as teaching, I quickly learned the reality: I’m way too serious for that. If you want to talk about challenging yourself, squatting deeper (that’s right, I said it), sweating more, and driving up your intensity, I’m your gal. People came to my class for that experience, and those who didn’t like it found someone else.

And I quickly realized, “That’s okay. That’s my brand.”

That was the jacket (left). No black lipstick that day, unfortunately.
