The Value of a Minute

A minute can make the difference between life and death, love and hate, success and failure. Use yours well.

Seconds. That’s what we’re working with. Every second, we make observations, judgments, and decisions — even in our sleep, though perhaps with less control than we have in reality.

You have sixty of them in a minute. That’s a lot of time. Just think of the things you could do! Think of the diversity of all the things people around the world are doing this very instant. You could:

  • Decide to smile or frown, laugh or cry, sing or scream.
  • Create art — an expression of your thoughts and feelings that might be revered by your descendants in a hundred plus years.
  • Open your mind to learning something new.
  • Book a trip somewhere exciting (definitions vary), or save money for your next trip.
  • Adopt a pet, adopt a child, or help someone in need.
  • Birth a child, or support a partner who is giving birth.
  • Lay a loved one or a friend to rest, honoring their memory.
  • Commit to a goal of any shape, size, or distance — as long as it’s right for you in this minute.
